One of my biggest gripes is when women place their handbags on my dining table or my kitchen counter.  I don’t know where their bags have been and it bothers me that they think it is alright to set them on a place where I put or prepare my food. Some women put their bags on the floor in restaurants, washrooms and various public places, then later park them on top of tables beside their plate and cutlery. Who does that?

A laboratory in the United States tested handbags and revealed that the average women’s handbag harbored harmful bacteria like pseudomonas that can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous that can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and E.coli, which can make you zombie-sick.

Handbags that were rested on toilet floors have fecal contamination.  Makes you wonder why anyone would put her handbag on a toilet floor. There is no public toilet floor that has not met urine, feces and vomit. Disinfectant should visit regularly but I doubt they have ever met.

Leather and vinyl handbags fair better than cloth handbags and women with kids tend to have dirtier handbags than those without.  Think of your handbag as a pair of shoes.  If you wouldn’t put your shoes on your table, neither would you a handbag.  Just remember where your handbag has been. 

So, can’t put the bag on the floor, troublesome to hold onto it, what can a woman do?  If you are in a restaurant, try a handbag hanger that can fit over the edge of a table so you can dangle your bag above the floor.  Clean your leather bags with a leather-cleaner regularly and wash the cloth ones.  Non-leather bags just need a regular wipe down with a cloth dipped in disinfectant.  After all that cleaning, it’s still not alright to set them on the table. That is a triple ‘no’ because it’s not classy.

Going to the toilet with a handbag can often be aggravating when there is nowhere to hang or place your bag with a peace of mind. It is so rare to find a toilet in Brunei with a hook behind the door or on the wall.  Café or restaurant owners, if your toilets don’t have a hook on the wall or behind the door, do us womenfolk a favour and put one up, you might see a rise in women customers.  It is a simple idea that goes a long way to endearing a customer to your establishment. Make it easy for the ladies, and they will keep coming back.
